NWS: 1 to 2-inch Rain Totals For Most of the Region – Wet Weather Causes Accidents and Road Closures

weather map 1Rain totals across South Central Texas vary from yesterday’s weather pattern, but most areas topped out at an inch to an inch and a half. Austin had far less rain than the San Antonio region, with the Austin Bergstrom Airport only getting 8-tenths of an inch, while the San Antonio Airport had just over 2 full inches, and so did Randolph Air Force Base. New Braunfels is officially reporting about 1.3 inches, Canyon Lake had right at 1 inch, and San Marcos reports 1 inch.

Other rain totals:

- The Bulverde/Spring Branch area had about an inch and a half. And the Natural Bridge Caverns/Garden Ridge area had right at 2 inches.

- Here at the radio station on Loop 337, we had about an inch and ¾’s.

- The Mission Valley area of Hwy 46 had 1.6-inches.

- The County Line Road area had about an inch and a half.

- And the Guada-Coma Estates area had about 1.6-inches of rain yesterday.

And all that wet weather did contribute to more than a handful of traffic accidents across the region, mostly minor in nature. But there were 2 accidents on FM 725 yesterday that stand out. At around 9am, on 725 at Klein Road, two cars collided nearly head-on, but at relatively low speed, and there were no reported injuries from that wreck. Then, at around 9:40, just a few feet from where the first wreck happened on 725 at Klein Road, another 2-vehicle accident did cause injuries. A truck carrying a trailer began to fishtail ending in a side-impact accident with a jeep, and 3rd vehicle suffered some minor damage. The drivers of the jeep and the truck were injured. The driver of the truck had just minor injuries and was taken by EMS to Christus New Braunfels for treatment. But the driver of the jeep had to be extracted from his vehicle, and was taken by EMS to Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio with some pretty severe facial lacerations.

Elsewhere, there were a couple of reports of tree limbs that grew too heavy with the rain and fell across local roads. And the city did have to close several roads thanks to the constant and steady rains. Roads like N. Live Oak Ave. @ Altgelt, Altgelt @ the Dry Comal Creek, the 500 block of Alves Lane, the 200 block of Klein Rd., portions of Goodwin Lane (especially near Alligator Creek), and Conrads Lane near Alligator Creek. Out in the county, the road department had to close Old Nacogdoches Rd @ High Creek, Smithson Valley Rd, Rebecca Creek Rd @ the Guadalupe River, Hueco Springs Loop @ Elm Creek, Blanco Rd @ Scholz Rd, and Obst Rd at both ends of the Cibolo Creek. Most of those roads have reopened.
