UIL Realignments Reshuffle Local Schools – Smithson Valley Drops to 4A
Here’s a look at the UIL Realignment announced yesterday that reshuffles schools across the state into new districts for high school football and other high-school level extra-curricular activities, which are having a big impact on the local high school sports scene:
Under the new rules set out by Texas UIL, 5A schools are now those with a student population of 2065 or more. And for the next 2 years, 245 schools meet that requirement, including some new additions that went from 4A last year to 5A this year, like San Marcos, Seguin, Steele High in Cibolo, and Del Valle.
There were also some schools that dropped from 5A to 4A. Most notable on that list in this area is Smithson Valley, who went from 5A to 4A. Also dropping to 4A for the next 2 years is Pflugerville Connally, Bastrop, Cedar Park, and several schools in the Houston area.
And of course there are many schools staying where they’ve been, including New Braunfels High in 5A and New Braunfels Canyon in 4A.
So it breaks down like this:
Dist. 25-5A is now made up of Steele, Judson, New Braunfels, Wagner, San Marcos, and Seguin.
Dist. 27-4A is now Smithson Valley, Hays, Lehman, Lockhart, New Braunfels-Canyon, Alamo Heights, and Clemens.
