Hundreds Turn Out to View Motorcade Carrying Slain San Marcos Soldier
Hundreds of supporters lined roads between Randolph Air Force Base and San Marcos as the motorcade carrying the remains of a fallen San Marcos soldier returned to South-Central Texas yesterday. The body of 27-year old US Army Captain Paul Pena arrived at Randolph just before 1pm, and a motorcade of police officers and motorcycles made their way down FM 78, FM 3009, and up I-35 to San Marcos. Along the way, residents came out of their homes and businesses and lined the streets, holding American flags in support of the fallen soldier and his family. Pena was killed last week while serving overseas in Afghanistan. His family will hold a memorial service at the San Marcos Baptist Academy on Ranch Road 12 at 7pm tomorrow. Funeral services are scheduled for Friday morning at 11 at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in San Antonio, followed by burial at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery.
