(Seguin, TX)  --  The Seguin Gazette reports that Seguin Police have made one arrest in connection with this week’s drive –by shooting that ended in the death of a man at a home on Magnolia Street. Early Monday morning, just before 3am, Police were called to the 11-hundred block of Magnolia where they found 34-year old Geoffrey Carrizales shot in the chest in the front doorway. He was transported to the Guadalupe Regional Medical Center, where he died a short time later.

(Austin, TX)  --  The Austin American Statesman reports that the Texas Historic Commission has finally given the green light on the restoration effort for the Texas Governor’s Mansion. It’s been more than 2 years since an arsonist threw a Molotov cocktail at the historic building, setting it on fire, and badly damaging the more than 150-year old structure (said to be the oldest executive mansion west of the Mississippi River that is still in use as a Governor’s residence).

(Seguin, TX)  --  The Seguin Gazette reports that a big name comedian is coming to Seguin in October to help raise money for the Guadalupe County Child Advocacy Center. Bill Engvall is scheduled to perform on October 16th at the ‘Laugh Out Loud’ charity event, which will be held that Saturday night at Jackson Auditorium on the campus of Texas Lutheran University. The event begins at 8pm Oct. 16th, and is a fundraiser to help the Child Advocacy Center build a new center.

(Comal County, TX)  --  Burn bans are popping up all over South-Central Texas as the region waits for the end of summer. Hays County and Guadalupe County became the latest area counties to join the list of those that currently prohibit outdoor burning. Burn bans are also in place in Bandera, Bexar, Blanco, Comal, Kendall, and Kerr Counties. And for now, there are some counties that are still allowing the burning of brush piles and other debris. Those counties include Atascosa, Gillespie, Medina, and Wilson Counties.

(Guadalupe County, TX)  --  GBRA has lifted the restrictions that had been in place since early June on area lakes, like Lake Dunlap, McQueeney, Placid, and Meadow Lake. So as of yesterday, inflatables and other water toys are allowed once again on those lakes. And the curfew imposed on those lakes (restricting recreational use 30 minutes after sunset until 30 minutes before sunrise) has also been lifted.  For more, log on to http://gbra.org.

(San Marcos, TX)  --  Superintendent of the San Marcos ISD surprisingly resigned from her position at their meeting Monday night according to a report from the San Marcos Local News website. Superintendent Patty Chafer’s resignation was a surprise, even to board members that night, who came out of a shot executive session and accepted her resignation, which becomes effective at the end of the year. Shafer later said her decision to resign was so she could address some family matters.

(Austin, TX)  --  Texas Governor Rick Perry announced yesterday a new financial incentive for school districts across the state. Districts that work on pooling their resources with other districts as a way to cut costs would make their districts eligible for a new state grant that would equal 10% of their total savings in the first year. The idea is to cut administrative costs and direct that money into the classroom instead, by having districts share resources that are more cost effective when they’re spread out over more than one district.
