(New Braunfels, TX) -- A major water main break led to a loss in water pressure or water service entirely for hundreds of NBU customers yesterday morning.

New Braunfels Utilities tells KGNB News that a 12-inch water main suffered a break yesterday morning in a drainage ditch in the area of Mary Boulevard and State Hwy 46 South.

The first calls about that break came in just before 7:40am and NBU crews were on scene within minutes. The main break left residents along Hwy 46 South, like the Avery Park, Caprock, Stonegate, Windover Farms subdivisions and Cloud Lane with little to no water pressure.

The NBU water crews on scene went to work trying to locate various valves in order to shut off and reroute water in the area so they could first find the exact area of the leak and then get it repaired, while also trying to restore water pressure and service to those hundreds of homes.

Crews worked throughout the day on Sunday, eventually resolving most of the water pressure issues by about noon. But there were difficulties finding all of the valves needed for the repair, and crews were on scene well into the afternoon and evening continuing to work on the problem.

As more details are released about that leak and the repair work, we’ll have more updates for you here on KGNB.
