(New Braunfels, TX)  --  A bizarre traffic accident played out in the outfield of the New Braunfels High School baseball field yesterday afternoon. New Braunfels Police and Texas DPS troopers are investigating that wreck which saw a cement truck plow through the High School baseball field’s outfield just before 5pm yesterday.

The truck, driven by a 51-year old man, was attempting to merge into traffic onto Eastbound Loop 337 (off of Walnut Avenue) but failed to yield to traffic. Instead, the large cement-hauling truck struck a vehicle that was stopped at the yield sign, then veered off of the roadway, and traveled through the right field fence of the baseball stadium at New Braunfels High School, eventually exiting the left field wall, where it then struck an unoccupied school bus and a parked Ford F-150 pick-up truck.

Although baseball practice was being held at the time, no players, students or coaches were hit by the truck or injured in the incident. New Braunfels Police, Fire, and EMS crews all responded to the scene along with Texas DPS troopers. The driver of the cement truck and its front passenger were transported to Christus New Braunfels Hospital for treatment of minor injuries. The female driver of the vehicle on Loop 337 was not injured in the crash.

Crews cleared the scene about two hours later, around 7pm.  There is a baseball game scheduled to be played at New Braunfels High School tonight. For more on how this accident will affect tonight’s game, if at all, check the Local Sports page here at kgnb.am.
