Texan of the Year John Sharp to Kick-Off Today's Texas Legislative Conference
(New Braunfels, TX) -- The 47th Annual Texas Legislative Conference, featuring more than a few of the biggest business and political names in Texas, kicked off last night with the presentation of this year’s Texan of the Year Award to Texas A&M University System Chancellor John Sharp.
Sharp joins a “who’s who” list of former Texan of the Year awardees, including former Texas Governor John Connally, former First Lady Laura Bush, former US President George W. Bush, NBA Hall of Famer David Robinson, San Antonio businessman Red McCombs, Texas oil tycoon T. Boone Pickens, and last year’s recipient, economist Ray Perryman, just to name a few.
Today, the Legislative Conference continues with a jam-packed schedule. Breakfast is served at 7:45am, followed by the Welcoming Ceremony at 8:30 featuring a special opening address at 9am by this year’s Texan of the Year, John Sharp.
Then a series of 3 panel discussions will begin, first focusing on Medicare & Medicaid funding, then state transportation funding, and a media pundits panel will wrap up those discussions, looking at the impact to Texas following the November General Election.
The noon-time luncheon immediately follows that panel, featuring keynote speaker George P. Bush, the son of former Florida Governor Jeb Bush, who recently announced his bid for Texas Land Commissioner.
