(New Braunfels, TX) --  The Scooter Store, which has its world headquarters here in New Braunfels, announced this week that they have selected a new CEO, following the resignation of former CEO and founder Doug Harrison back in March.  Martin J. Landon, has now been named the company’s new Chief Executive Officer, taking over for Scooter Store Board Member J. Randall Bishop, who was named the interim CEO during the search for the company’s next leader.  Bishop will remain on the board of directors while Landon takes over the day to day operations at the city’s largest private employer.

As KGNB previously reported, Harrison resigned to pursue other interests, with Harrison and the Board decided that it was the right time to make a leadership change in order to continue to build value and drive growth for the company.  Now the Scooter Store says Landon will take over that role, bringing critical strategic and financial experience in the Home Medical Equipment sector, including Medicare and private insurance reimbursement issues, most recently as Chief Financial Officer and Executive Vice President at Kinetic Concepts, Inc.  In addition to having responsibility for the company’s global financial strategy, Landon was one of the key architects of KCI’s growth strategy, and partnered closely with the CEO in developing the organizational structure and driving business performance.  From 1994 to 2002, Landon served as KCI’s Vice President.  In 2002 he was appointed Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of KCI and was promoted to Executive Vice President in 2009. Prior to KCI, Landon held a number of financial positions at computer services firm Interlogic Trace, including CFO and Vice President.  He will assume his new position at The Scooter Store here in New Braunfels on July 30th

Scooter Store officials say their company is the nation's leading provider of power mobility solutions and services for elderly and disabled patients, and the company has been repeatedly named a member of the Inc. 500 and has twice been named one of Fortune Magazine’s top "100 Best Companies to Work For," an honor that came after some rocky years that saw the Scooter Store forced to lay off hundreds of workers because of stricter Medicare regulations, followed by an investigation by the FBI over alleged false Medicare claims.  In the end, the Scooter Store settled with the federal government, paying 4-million dollars and agreeing to give up about 13-million dollars in Medicare payments.

Since then the company has flourished, expanding its national operations, and adding 500 jobs locally, making up for those lost during earlier layoffs.  And the Scooter Store remains New Braunfels’ largest private employer, with nearly 2-thousand local employees.  And again, Landon will take over the reins of the company on July 30th.
