Rain Showers Lead to Accidents, Traffic Tie-ups on I-35, FM 725, and Loop 337
(New Braunfels, TX) -- Brief, but sometimes strong, rain showers throughout the day yesterday may have played a role in several accidents, leaving local roads tied up with traffic.
The day didn’t start off well when a gravel truck wrecked on Loop 337 near the Landa Street spur a little before 7:30am. No one was injured in that wreck, and it took about a half hour to clean up following the accident.
Around 1:30pm there were two accidents very near to each other on opposite sides of I-35, causing traffic delays on both the north and southbound sides of the interstate. Both wrecks involved 18 wheelers, and happened near Solms Road, but again were on opposite sides of the highway. In both wrecks a passenger car collided with an 18-wheeler, causing traffic backups but no reported injuries. By about 2:15, both of those wrecks had been cleared out of the way and traffic returned to normal.
And then, later in the evening, a 3-car wreck on FM 725 sent one person to the hospital. That accident happened just before 9pm in the 22-hundred block of FM 725, between County Line Road and the Southbank Subdivision. The three vehicle wreck tied up traffic along that portion of 725 until crews could clear the scene around 9:30pm. Only one of the drivers required additional treatment and was transported to Christus New Braunfels Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
More of those widely scattered thunderstorms are expected today. Yesterday’s storms officially dropped half an inch of rain on New Braunfels, according to the gauge at the New Braunfels Regional Airport. Today’s showers are expected to be fewer and further apart, so don’t expect that kind of rain total again today. And that may be our last chance for rain for the next several days.
