(New Braunfels, TX) -- Jury selection was held yesterday and opening arguments are expected today in the continuous sexual abuse of a child case against 54-year old Rickey Rowlett.

Rowlett faces a single count of continuous sexual abuse of a child which, according to the indictment, took place over a period of 3 years from 2008 to 2011. Rowlett is accused of sexually assaulting his granddaughter on multiple occasions over those 3 years, when the girl was younger than 14. That crime is considered a 1st degree felony, and since the state is alleging that the abuse was continuous, it upgrades the sentence he could receive, if convicted, to between 25 and 99 years in prison.

District Court Judge Jack Robison oversaw jury selection in his courtroom yesterday and opening arguments are expected to begin when court reconvenes at 9am today. Rowlett was arrested in August of last year and was indicted on the continuous sexual abuse of a child charge in December. He has remained in custody since his arrest, originally on a 600-thousand dollar bond that has since been reduced to 200-thousand dollars.

As that trial continues this week at the Comal County Courthouse, we’ll have updates for you here on KGNB and online at kgnb.am.
