(Comal County, TX) -- Comal County Commissioners have called for a special meeting on Monday where they could put in place the first burn ban in Comal County since this past November.

The county’s drought index, according to the Texas Forest Service’s KDBI scale, is approaching 500, which is the trigger point for burn bans. But with some rain possible this weekend, Commissioners want to wait until at least Monday before deciding on implementing a ban on outdoor burning.

To be clear, Commissioner’s are only considering a burn ban (for controlled fires, campfires, etc), not a ban on fireworks, like Bexar County did this week. We talked with Pct. 1 County Commissioner Donna Eccleston yesterday about the continued heat, and the possibility of a burn ban as opposed to a fireworks ban, and you can hear her comments by clicking the Audio Clip link below.

Commissioners Court does have a special meeting at 2pm on Monday to look at another item, but could decide to take up a burn ban if the drought index has risen enough. Or the County Fire Marshal could go in front of Commissioner’s Court next week Thursday to ask for a burn ban.
