Memorial Service for Jessica Ghawi Set for Saturday in San Antonio
(Comal County, TX) -- A memorial service for one of the 12 people killed in Friday’s early morning attack at an Aurora, Colorado movie theater will be held in San Antonio this week.
24-year old Jessica Ghawi, a Smithson Valley High graduate and sister of a Seguin firefighter who lives in New Braunfels, was killed Friday when a shooter opened fire inside of a crowded movie theater during the premier of the new Batman movie, “The Dark Knight Rises.”
Ghawi was at the theater with friend Brent Lowack, a Bulverde resident who had come to visit and who was also shot in the massacre. Lowack survived and is recovering at an Aurora-area hospital. It’s unclear if he will be able to return to the San Antonio area in time for the memorial service for Ghawi, which is set for this coming Saturday morning at 10 at the Community Bible Church in the 24-hundred block of Loop 1604.
Ghawi’s brother and Seguin firefighter, Jordan, has used social media and national media to spread the word about his sister’s life and her dreams to become a sportscaster (which is why she left the San Antonio area in the first place, to pursue those dreams in Colorado).
He has told various media outlets that his sister’s body will be cremated before being returned to San Antonio for Saturday’s memorial service, which again will be held at the Community Bible Church on Loop 1604 in San Antonio.
