High School Football: Recap and Playoff Information

Friday, December 10th, 2010

It was simple for the New Braunfels Unicorns and they did what they had to do to get in which was defeat the MacArthur Brahmas 27-16 Friday night at Unicorn Stadium. Now the Unicorns are headed back to the playoffs after a year absence as they get ready for the Bastrop Bears in Bi-District round this Friday night in San Marcos at Bobcat Stadium with kickoff set for 7:30.

The Smithson Valley Rangers also could have gotten in with a win but it was the Roosevelt Rough Riders, coming away with a 24-20 upset. The loss for Smithson Valley dropped the Rangers to 6-4, and 5-3 in district 26-5A play as they will miss out on the post season for the in 13 seasons a streak that started in 1996, and this will also be their first time to miss the playoffs since joining Class 5A in 2002.

The Canyon Lake Hawks were already post season bound so their 40-7 loss to the Burnet Bulldogs only cost them the chance to place 2nd in district 8-3A as they finished as the 3rd place team. Canyon Lake will play their first playoff game in the history of the football program in only their second year as they take on China Spring in the Bi-District round of the class 3A playoffs. That game will take place Saturday night at the Georgetown ISD Athletic Complex, with kickoff set for 8:00.

And finally the Canyon Cougars wrapped up their season Friday falling to the Boerne Champion Chargers 37-27. The loss was the Cougars 5th straight as Canyon wrapped up their season with a record of 3-7 on the year and 2-5 in district 27-4A.
