(New Braunfels, TX) -- Friends and family of murder victim Thomas Kitto are holding a BBQ benefit today to help cover the cost of funeral expenses, and to help out his college-aged daughter finish school at Texas Tech.

41-year old Thomas Lee Kitto (right) of New Braunfels was stabbed to death last week Thursday in the Canyon Falls RV Park on the north side of Canyon Lake. Despite the efforts of paramedics, Kitto died at the scene. A Canyon Lake man has since been arrested and charged with his murder. 34-year old Eric Byron Crayton was arrested not long after the stabbing and he remains in custody on a 100-thousand dollar bond.

Now his family, including a brother and sister, are hoping the community will help out with funeral expenses at today’s BBQ plate sale. From noon to 5pm BBQ plates will be on sale for $6 dollars at the Rox Convenience Store on FM 306 in Canyon Lake. And some local businesses have stepped up to help with today’s sale. Tyson Foods has donated the chicken, Granzin’s has donated the sausage, Rox Convenience Store has donated the rice and beans, and Heisel’s Rent-All has donated the use of the BBQ pit. Again, that’s from noon to 5pm at the Rox Convenience Store in the 12-thousand block of FM 306, just past FM 2673.

Kitto is survived by two daughters, his father and mother, a brother and sister, and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews. A private memorial service is planned for this weekend here in New Braunfels.
