Fourth of July in New Braunfels: Parade and Fireworks
(New Braunfels, TX) -- It’s Independence Day, and New Braunfels is ready to celebrate our nation’s birthday with two big events today, separated by 12 hours of BBQ’s, swimming, floating, and other revelry. Coming up at 9:15 this morning is the annual 4th of July Parade and Patriotic Program in downtown New Braunfels. If you have signed up to be in the parade, you should line-up around 8am in the parking lot of Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church. The parade will begin around 9:15, making its way down Castell Street before turning onto San Antonio Street and going around the Main Plaza. And once the parade is over, the Patriotic Program begins at the bandstand, featuring some short speeches by local officials followed by patriotic music provided by the Comal Community Band. The entire event should be finished by 11/11:15 or so, and organizers remind you to bring your lawn chairs, your American flags, and plenty of water since it will start to get warm.
We should note that local American Legion Post 179 will be providing the color guard for today’s parade, and following the program on the Plaza the Legion will hold their annual BBQ back at their post on West Coll Street (which is right across the street from the Sophienburg). The BBQ is eat in or take out, with plates priced at $8.50. They’ll also have some BBQ meats available by the quarter, half, or full pound, including brisket and sausage. Again, that’s at the American Legion Post on Coll Street immediately following the parade and program downtown.
And that pretty much kicks off those 12 hours of backyard BBQ’s, trips down the river, and family get-togethers in celebration of the 4th of July, culminating in tonight’s fireworks display over Landa Park. City Parks Director Stacey Dicke says the city has been looking forward to hosting a fireworks show for well over a year now since last year’s show was cancelled due to very dry conditions. And because it’s the same fireworks company, they’ve promised to make this year’s show even better than in years past. Festivities in Landa Park begin at 7pm with a free concert at the Dance Slab leading up to the fireworks show, which will start at around 9:15. Of course, bring your radio with you to Landa Park, since your hometown radio stations (AM 1420 KGNB and 92.1FM KNBT) will be broadcasting the music that’s timed to go along with the fireworks. And that music is also available on your smartphone if you have the free KGNB or KNBT App for iPhone and Android. Again, that all starts around 9:15 tonight in the skies over Landa Park.
