(New Braunfels, TX) -- As many as a dozen vehicle burglaries were reported to New Braunfels Police earlier this week, with 4 of those happening in the Oak Run area of the city.

All four of those cases happened to vehicles that were left unlocked overnight Monday into Tuesday, with a variety of items stolen, including GPS units, a men’s watch, an iPod, and, in one of those cases, in the 17-hundred block of Oak Glen, the thief or thieves made off with a Bersa semi-automatic 9-millimeter pistol.

Another firearm was stolen from a vehicle in the 400 block of Ridge Drive, and once again, that vehicle was left unlocked. Other vehicle burglaries were also reported Tuesday morning on Primrose Way, Loop 337, South Walnut Avenue, West San Antonio Street, and South Business 35.

New Braunfels Police say the best way to protect your vehicle from burglary is to lock the doors, take valuables (including firearms) inside with you, and to make sure you park in a well lit area.

If you see a suspicious person roaming your neighborhood, or, worse, someone actively breaking into your vehicle, officers say you should either call 911 or call the department's non-emergency number at 221-4100.
