DPS: Spring Branch Jogger Critically Injured After Being Hit by Car
(Spring Branch, TX) -- A 40-year-old Spring Branch woman is in critical condition after she was struck by a vehicle during a routine jog through her neighborhood earlier this week.
Just before 5:30pm Tuesday the woman was jogging with the flow of traffic along Mexican Hat Drive in the Mystic Shores Subdivision, which sits off FM 306 and Mystic Parkway, north of Canyon Lake. Local DPS Troopers say that the driver of the car, who was traveling west, had the sun in her eyes and she apparently didn’t see the woman jogging in the road ahead of her when her car struck the woman from behind.
Spring Branch EMS, Comal County Sheriff’s Deputies, and Texas DPS troopers all responded to the scene. Airlife was also called in to take the 40-year old female jogger to University Hospital in San Antonio with serious head injuries. DPS Troopers say that at last check she was still listed in critical condition.
Troopers say the driver of the car will not face any criminal charges since the incident has been ruled an accident. But DPS officials strongly urge joggers or walkers to stay on sidewalks as much as possible, and if you’re going to walk or jog in the street, to do so going AGAINST the flow of traffic.
