(New Braunfels, TX) -- New Braunfels City Council effectively killed the Stormwater Utility Fee issue at last night’s meeting, following a motion by newly elected Dist. 3 Councilman Ron Reaves to postpone the discussion indefinitely. The rest of Council, with the exception of New Braunfels Mayor Gale Pospisil, agreed, and they voted 5 to 1 to end all discussion about the proposed utility fee for the near future. For much more about that decision, including reaction from City Council members and residents, just click the Audio Clip link below.

Also last night, New Braunfels City Council approved nearly 11-million dollars in funding for park improvements and golf course needs. That money will come from the New Braunfels 4B Board. The approval of the money sets the stage for some major park improvements, including maintenance issues in Landa Park and the creation of the brand new Fischer Park on the eastside of I-35. 750-thousand dollars of that money will go toward paying staff members at the Golf Course while the course is shut down during some upcoming renovations, and will also be used to make up any gaps in funding until the golf course is able to sustain itself again following those renovations. The 11-million dollars in funding had unanimous approval from the 4B Board and got unanimous approval from City Council last night.

The 11 Million in funding for

The 11 Million in funding for the park upgrade and golf course renovation leads to more questions.

"750-thousand dollars of that money will go toward paying staff members at the Golf Course while the course is shut down during some upcoming renovations, and will also be used to make up any gaps in funding until the golf course is able to sustain itself again following those renovations."

How MANY staff members are receiving pay and at what amount? What renovations are being done to the golf course and how long will they take? 750k to pay staff and take care of "gaps", whatever those are? Is the golf course really that bad?
