2012-2013 UIL District Realignments Change Local Sports Landscape
(New Braunfels, TX) -- The 2012-2013 UIL High School District Alignments have been announced, and for the first time in 12 years, New Braunfels, Canyon and Smithson Valley have been aligned into the same district, all in the 25-5A district joining the two Converse schools Judson and Wagner, and San Marcos.
In a 25-5A district with six teams, each program is allowed to schedule five non-district games; over the next two years Canyon will play 5-time State Champion Lake Travis, Killeen, San Antonio Roosevelt, Austin LBJ and San Antonio Southwest in non-district.
New Braunfels’ non-district schedule will include Boerne Champion, Seguin, San Antonio Madison, San Antonio Johnson and East Central.
Smithson Valley has four scheduled non-district games so far against Brandeis, Laredo United, Madison and Corpus Christi King with one more game to be announced.
Besides the district number, Canyon Lake’s district literally did not change. The Hawks, who will go from 26-3A to 27-3A will still be in a district with Fredericksburg, Navarro, Wimberley, Bandera and Boerne.
