Could a citywide curfew be coming to New Braunfels for kids under the age of 17? That issue came up in a special presentation made by New Braunfels Police Chief Ron Everett to City Council last night. The Chief laid out the pros and cons of a city-wide curfew, explaining to Council that a curfew would be a good tool for police to protect the youth and the community, by giving officers a way to get underage kids off the streets, and out of trouble.

Adding 20 or so new officers over the last couple of years has also meant quite a few promotions for the New Braunfels Police Department. And as with any agency that’s growing rapidly, not everyone will be happy with the changes. But after complaints were made to the City Manager that the promotion process at the police department had been purposefully manipulated to benefit certain individuals, the growing pains took on a more serious form, with a formal inquiry into the department’s promotions process.
The discussion on short term rentals on last night’s New Braunfels City Council agenda was pretty much over before it started. The item was placed on the ballot by Mayor Pro Tem Kathleen Krueger, who wanted to discuss a possible ban to short term rentals in residential areas of the city, but Council quickly learned that they couldn’t take any action on that issue, since a change like that would first have to come through the Planning and Zoning Commissions.
